Women's Self Defence

Self Defence Courses for females aged 14+

In these increasingly violent times, it is a fact that assaults and serious attacks on women are on the increase. There is a way to increase your confidence in yourself in your daily business.  We call it   self defence.

       What is Self Defence?

Self-defence is what we do to make our lives safer on a daily basis. It’s about taking control of situations in which you’re to be made a victim - this ranges from comments to physical attack. It is realizing that if someone does not respect your  boundaries, you  should stop them.

There are many different strategies for this - saying something, yelling, leaving, fighting - the important thing is you

***DO SOMETHING! ***

Women’s Self Defence is a self defence course especially designed for women and  run by women. It is   designed to show you how to avoid an attack, or in the situation where you are attacked, how to fight backIn addition It covers dealing with a nuisance, to protecting yourself from, and coping with an attacker.

You are entitled to feel safe and this course will give you the tools to ensure that you do. No specialist clothing is required: tracksuit bottoms, leggings or shorts and a T-shirt should be worn .Jewellery should be removed or covered during lessons, to avoid the possibility of injury. We have mats provided therefore no footwear will be needed. You are not required to be particularly fit, however if you are significantly overweight, elderly, have not exercised for a long period of time, or suffer from diabetes, heart, respiratory or back problems, it is advisable that you work within your own limits and consult your GP before starting the course.

COURSE PRIORITIES:

It has to address the inevitable ‘adrenaline dump’ which is the natural effect of fear induced aggression.
It has to be simple enough to teach students in days or weeks instead of years.
It has to be effective regardless of the size of the attacker.
It has to address real street situations and sexual assaults instead of make believe situations.
It has to be quick, effective and decisive.
It has to teach verbal and physical boundary setting skills as research shows many physical confrontations can be avoided by doing this.
It has to contain the minimum of techniques. This is necessary. As research has shown that as few as a handful of techniques can be recalled when fully ‘adrenalized’.
It has to be easy to learn.

AT THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

Deal with the most common attacks against women.
Use good verbal and spatial skills to prevent many assaults from becoming physical.
Defend against someone attacking you in bed.
Execute the ‘stop hit’; this technique can stop even the largest attacker in his tracks.
Demonstrate quick and effective defences and escapes from non-life threatening ‘annoyance’ attacks.
Protect yourself from the most common of all mugging attacks.
Defend yourself from chokes and strangles.
Demonstrate strategic targeting techniques; learning to strike the proper targets in just the right way.
Use effective defences against attempted rape.
