is a new initiative aiming to increase
young people’s health and well being by offering exciting and
innovative activity- fitness sessions with a Self-Defence theme.
Our ultimate aim is to
get the local community active, with particular focus on encouraging
children to adopt healthier lifestyles and become fitter. An Active
Bodies session has no physical contact and is a programme of
exercises, activities and fun games which have a Self-Defence theme
that will help young people to become more self-confident and
explore their abilities without feeling under pressure to perform.
We work with small groups, giving the children the attention they need to help them
acquire and enhance the skills essential to their development and
provide them with the confidence to become their own heroes.
The key elements of the programme are to enhance eight skills that are important to the development of young people.
The skills are:
Fitness and
co-ordination. |
Teamwork |
Focus |
Balance |
Control |
Memory |
Discipline |
These skills are necessary for participation in any sport or activity be it physical or academic.
Active Bodies offer exciting and rewarding fitness and activity sessions. Learning goals are clear and achievable;
and because the courses come complete with certificates and photographs, the feelings of
achievement are instant and ongoing. This means that children participate actively and have constant
reward for their efforts.
Stickers, nametags, and the use of specialist props are also used; making the sessions stimulating and
more exhilarating.
Active Bodies have children currently participating in the
programmes in various schools and community
buildings all over Kirklees. We have experienced a steady growth from 2008 to 2010 and have expanded
our sessions to 6 days a week. In 2011 we secured our very own Active Bodies centre, in which we offer
sessions and classes for adults, women only, young people and children. We
are coaches of self-awareness, self-discipline and self-confidence and
use the framework of martial arts to deliver
innovative fitness and activity sessions to young
people.
Active Bodies would love to share Little Ninja, Junior Ninja and Hattori classes with all young people in
schools across Kirklees.
Active Bodies also deliver a full Self Defence Programme to adult females over the age of 16 and these
courses can be run in the workplace.
Our Active Bodies coaches are available to implement long term active sessions, one off sessions, breakfast/lunch time
clubs, or curriculum-time delivery, six days a week. We are fully insured to deliver our courses, and all
our coaches are CRB checked.
If you have any questions, or wish to start an Active Bodies club in your school, please do not hesitate to
contact us
at any time. We will be happy to answer any questions and supply you with an information pack
which includes a price guide. We offer competitive prices and special deals for long-term contracts and
would be happy to discuss whether something of this nature would be more appropriate for your needs.
